Are You Eligible For Dental Grants in Michigan?
There are many charitable programs in Michigan that help people with dental problems. However, not everyone gets to benefit.
Only eligible applicants who meet the qualifications can apply for dental grants according to the guidelines established by the American Dental Association (ADA) and Michigan Dental Association (MDA).
This is done to ensure that high-risk populations and underserved areas receive the all the benefit of the best dental care available. Also, volunteer dentists teach them about the importance of oral health, and its impact on overall health.
Below are the eligibility criteria for Donated Dental Services (DDS). The programs will only approve dental grants only if:
- The applicant is not covered by any dental insurance
- The applicant has not received treatment before
- The applicant is 65 years old or older
- The applicant has a lifelong disability
- The applicant has a medical condition
- The applicant does not have enough income to cover the treatment (household income below 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines).
Volunteer dentists, dental clinics, and laboratories can only provide dental treatment for eligible applicants. Therefore, after the program members have reviewed the application, those who aren’t eligible for grants but still apply will be sent a denial letter.
NOTE: Volunteer dentists or dental clinics in the DDS or other dental assistance programs do not provide emergency services. And to start treatment, you must first apply and get an appointment with a dentist.
