Grants for disabled people can make the difference between getting a wheelchair van and not. There are many state-specific financial assistance programs available for residents with disabilities in Georgia. These monetary assistance can be used to purchase or lease a new or used handicap van. It can also be used for accessibility modifications like driving hand controls, ramps, automated scooters or wheelchair lifts, turning automotive seat systems, and more.
The list below are state government agencies and other groups which can be your starting point for finding Georgia disability grants for your handicapped-accessible vehicle. Several of them provide funds themselves. Also, some of these organizations assist in finding financial aid, instead of providing funds. However, never skip these organizations since they may help you find grant money sources that you may not have found on your own.
Furthermore, contact Georgia-based chapters for disability-specific organizations which work on behalf of people with specific ailments. Many of them offer disability grants, and they can direct you to the right place to find more grants.

This grassroots organization assists Georgians with disabilities to live independently and works to empower them. They don’t offer grant money, but they can help you find disability grants that you may be eligible for and put towards your handicap van or wheelchair van.

FOCUS Georgia
FOCUS Georgia and Fragile Kids Foundation combined in 2017 to better serve children in need. Parents or legal guardians of medically fragile children, those under 21, residing primarily in Georgia can apply for Equipment. Then, a Review Committee reviews each application four times a year. Moreover, FOCUS can grant equipment to families for no cost, or loan equipment for a longer period of time for $25.
Equipment Grants only cover equipment not covered by insurance or Medicaid, including:
- Overhead lift systems, stairlifts, and wheelchair lifts
- Ramps for vans and homes
- Car seats with special features
- Pediatric strollers
- Beach wheelchairs (check the website for more details)
- Seating and more

Georgia Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs)
There are ADRC offices located throughout the state to serve residents at the county level. These Centers helps seniors citizens and disabled people in Georgia with finding the necessary information, disability grants, and services. This is one the most valuable resources you have.

Georgia Association of Area Agencies on Aging (GAAAA)
GAAAA helps elderly residents of Georgia to maintain their independence and live a high quality life. The agency also points to various services and financial assistance options. There are many offices located throughout the state.
Georgia Department of Veterans Service
The Department of Veterans Services and Veterans Affairs in the state provide strong support for disabled veterans. The Georgia Department stands ready to assist its disabled veterans residing in the state. Grant money is also available for those who need wheelchair vans, or vehicle accessibility accessories and conversions required due to the disability that was sustained during service.

Georgia Rehabilitation Services
Georgia’s vocational rehabilitation program is designed to help disabled residents of Georgia join the workforce. This often means disability grants are offered to help people with disabilities pay for wheelchair vans. These vans are used to find and keep a job. There are several offices located throughout the state.
This is similar to the DVR, one of the Disability Grants in Florida.
Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) of Georgia
SILCs are advocates and resources for disabled people who want to maintain their independence and ability for self-determination. Georgia’s SILC offers education, outreach, and other assistance for disabled residents of the state and their families.

Tools for Life
Tools for Life aims to assist disabled persons in Georgia to obtain assistive technology they need to live full lives. It offers funding opportunities education, assistive technology training, a lending library, and several other services and resources.
