NHS Emergency Housing Assistance Grants

The State of Illinois, Cook County, the City of Chicago, and/or other private resources made emergency assistance funds available to help low-to-moderate income households facing economic hardships. These grants will be made as long as funding is available, until the fund has been exhausted, and/or the program time frame permits.

Please refer to the resources below if you require financial assistance for your rent, mortgage, or utility bills (income limits usually apply).

RENTAL ASSISTANCE

The State of Illinois, Cook County, and the City of Chicago established new emergency rental assistance programs to assist households affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. CLICK HERE to see a complete list of available assistance programs as well as relevant dates for each program.

Illinois Rental Payment Program (ILRPP)

The Illinois Rental Payments Program is now closed (January 9, 2022). If you need help following up on your application with the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), please contact the Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago at 1-800-831-7949, or send an email to [email protected].

Illinois Department of Housing Services (IDHS)

The Illinois Rental Payment Program is now closed. However, the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) still offers rental assistance. For assistance with applying for IDHS rental assistance, please visit their network of providers in your area.

UTILITY BILL ASSISTANCE

State of Illinois Utility Bill Assistance Low Income Housing Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Eligible low-income households in Illinois can receive financial assistance to help pay their electric and heating bills. CLICK HERE to find out more from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Chicago residents can contact CEDA directly to apply for Gas and Electric Assistance under the LIHEAP program.
