Forefront creates a vibrant sector of social impact for everyone in Illinois.

They were founded in 1974, and are the only national statewide membership organization for nonprofits, philanthropy, public agencies, advisors, as well as our allies. They offer education, advocacy, thought leadership, and project management in order to attract investment to the sector, develop top talent, improve policies and systems, and create organizational capability.

Presently, the number of members is more than 1,100. The Nonprofit Members operate across the state’s 26 issues areas. The Grantmaking Members are private foundations, such as family and independent foundations, corporations, public charities, donor-advised funds, charitable trusts, and individual philanthropists. The Advisor Members are consultants, lawyers, investment managers, and other professional advisors to grantmakers and nonprofits. Furthermore, in the organization’s efforts to stimulate innovation in the sector, they engage social entrepreneurs, impact investors, and B-Corps.
