The SF SPCA provides financial assistance for veterinary care to qualified, low-income pet guardians in San Francisco.
They offer financial assistance to eligible guardians in order to provide compassionate care for as many dogs and cats as possible.
In order to be eligible for financial assistance, you must:
- Document proof of San Francisco residency
- Any valid ID that includes an address. (If you don’t have one, please include a utility/cable bill).
- Letter of verification for the homeless
- Please provide proof of income
- SSI/SSDI
- Statement from the Bank
- Letter of verification for the homeless
- Pay Stub
- Financial assistance from school/loans
- Support for children
- GA
- Food stamps
- You must be able to pay the exam fee at time of service
- General Appointment: $90
- Same-day Urgent Care: $131
- Walk-in Emergency Exams: $175
- All pets in care must have spay/neutered
- You have exhausted CareCredit and applied for it.
Important Note: The SF SPCA does not offer Financial Assistance in the form of payment plans anymore. All visit types require payment at the time of service.

CareCredit
Every client who needs financial assistance must apply for CareCredit. This credit card is offered by Synchrony Bank, which offers financing options at certain healthcare and veterinary facilities. To learn more, please visit the CareCredit website.
If your application is approved, you will need to use your CareCredit card to pay for the treatment of your pet if you have no other option to pay in full.
- CareCredit can pay for any product or service at the hospital.
- CareCredit can usually be the best option for costly treatments such as dental work. Since they offer several extended financing options through CareCredit.
